Half a million minutes!

Did you know that from Foundation Stage 2 to Year 6, children spend approximately 478,800 minutes together in the classroom? That's nearly half a million minutes of learning alongside the same group of people.

So what could be more important than building classroom cultures where children feel they belong, can recognise strengths and qualities in themselves and others, and take ownership over their learning behaviours?

What if you discovered there was an intervention that could do this? One that can be implemented in classrooms, for just one hour a week, for a six week period, that will:

  • support children and teachers to achieve their goals;

  • not interfere with the lesson delivery;

  • not require any additional planning;

  • work alongside current behaviour systems in place;

  • be non-judgemental;

  • be non-threatening;

  • give positive and tailored feedback to every single member of the class, including teachers; and

  • promote inclusion, build relationships and improve behaviour?

I suspect you'd say WOWW and want to know more!

What is WOWW?

Working On What Works (WOWW) is an evidence-based, whole class behaviour support intervention, rooted in solution-focused psychology. It's inclusive, with all members of the classroom (pupils and teaching staff) receiving specific feedback about what they are doing well during lessons. This is then used to facilitate positive social interactions at the peer-to-peer level and between children and adults.

WOWW provides a clear focus on outcomes for the whole class to work towards, and through scaling, supports children and teaching staff to take ownership and responsibility over their own learning behaviours, whilst receiving coaching support. Teachers engage with WOWW because it is positive, goal-orientated, works alongside current school behaviour systems (without interfering with the curriculum delivery) and gets results.

WOWW was originally developed by Lee Shilts and Insoo Kim Berg in Florida, USA, when they discovered how pupil behaviour could be significantly improved by complimenting children solely on the things they did well.

Let's get WOWW-ing!

“Completing the WOWW (Working on What Works) coaching programme with David has been truly transformative for our classroom and our school community. What was once a chaotic learning environment (with a very difficult cohort) has become a calm, positive space where children work together harmoniously."
